Welcome to Long Furlong Medical Centre Website
The Practice provides complete general medical services for residents and their visitors living within the boundaries defined by the map available by following the link to Practice Area.
The surgery is a modern medical centre conveniently situated in the Long Furlong housing estate in Abingdon. It has its own car park with a disabled parking bay and ramps to the main entrance. If the car park is full please park considerately and safely along Boulter Drive or in the public car park at the end of the road which is just a 2 minute walk from the surgery. Buses regularly travel along Oxford Road, there is a short walk from the last stop in Abingdon to the surgery.
Our team includes six GP partners; Drs Allan, Moore, Elwig, Keeling and Nowell, and Barter. We also have three part-time practice nurses, a phlebotomist and health care assistant, a reception and administration team of ten and a practice manager.
Dr Keeling teaches medical students and throughout the year run teaching surgeries with students observing and, sometimes, leading the consultations. At the time of booking your appointment you will be advised by the receptionist that medical students will be present. If you prefer to see the doctor alone please ask for a 'non teaching' appointment.
Named Accountable GPs.
All our patients are allocated a named GP who is responsible for patients' overall care at the practice. If you do not know who your named GP is, please contact reception on 01235 522379. If you have a preference as to which GP is your named GP we will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate this request.
The named accountable GP takes lead responsibility for the co-ordination of all services that we are required to deliver under contract and ensures, based on their clinical judgement, that those services are delivered to each of their patients where required.
For patients over 75, their named accountable GP will also work with the relevant associated health and social care professionals to deliver a multi-disciplinary care package that meets the needs of the patient. They will also ensure that patients in this age group are able to have access to a health check.
